- More Details
Large and scarce John Clark Saddlery Co. fishing creel measuring 16" across its bottom and 9 1/2" tall. This creel retains its original rear carry handle, closing strap & buckle and beautiful tooled leather pattern trimming! It was found with a leather shoulder harness which is included. John Clark started the company in 1878 and he died in 1923 but the company was continued by his family until 1927. The "vast majority of Clark creels are unmarked" as is this one but it retains an exclusive Clark lid closing strap detail that defines a lot of his work.....the cutout closing lid strap detail where it meets the half leather covered top. Beautiful tooled patterns, nice vintage patina, and a 10" measure across the rear top of the lid hinge. Originally dyed this tightly woven french weave split willow basket is in great shape! The closing strap for the lid is a bit fragile but still intack and all there. Very collectable creel and displays really great! Please click on its image to see additional closeups of it.
