HAND CARVED BLACK BEAR BOOKENDS

A wonderful pair of vintage hand-carved wooden Black Bear bookends, combining rustic lodge character with unusually expressive carving. Each bookend features a seated bear with one paw raised, individually carved fur, prominent ears, glass-like eyes, and an open mouth complete with painted teeth and tongue. The bears have particularly appealing faces, giving the pair considerable personality.

The bears are mounted on substantial wooden bases cleverly carved and finished to resemble closed books, while the upright supports are fashioned as standing volumes with detailed spines and simulated page edges. The warm, dark-brown finish and visible wood grain complement the deep relief of the carving and give the set an attractive aged appearance.

These bookends show age-appropriate wear, surface marks, finish loss and minor imperfections, all consistent with their vintage character. Please examine the accompanying photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

An especially decorative pair of Black Bear bookends—perfect for displaying a collection of angling, sporting, outdoor or lodge books, or simply as distinctive examples of vintage American rustic décor.
