A wonderful piece of American sporting folk art, this vintage wooden sled was discovered in Maine and features a striking, hand-painted fly-fishing motif. The deep blue-green wooden deck is centered by an oval vignette depicting a stringer of three colorful trout, individually rendered with spotted bodies and rich red, green, and silvery tones.

Above and below the trout are several hand-painted traditional fishing flies, adding wonderful detail and making the piece especially appealing to the fly-fishing collector. Decorative gold-toned pinstriping and scrollwork accent the perimeter of the sled, beautifully complementing the aged metal runners and hardware.

The sled retains an appealing time-worn surface and patina, with the expected rubbing, paint loss, oxidation, and signs of age that give it an authentic rustic character. The original sled construction and gracefully curved runners provide considerable dimension when displayed.
