Hardy Neroda Fly Box

Hardy Bros. Large Neroda Oxblood Compartment Fly Box with Vintage Trout Flies

A vintage large-size Hardy Brothers “Neroda” fly box, made in England and dating from approximately the 1930s–1960s. The rounded rectangular case measures approximately 6¼ inches long by 3¾ inches wide and is molded in richly mottled oxblood-colored Bakelite. It also retains its original translucent sliding windows. Both exterior panels bear the circular molded inscription “Hardy Bros. Makers England.” The case is fitted with a full-length metal hinge and a cream-painted interior. One side contains multiple divided fly compartments protected by four individually sliding translucent covers. This arrangement was designed to keep different fly patterns separated while allowing the angler to view and access one section at a time. One cover is shown extended in the photographs to illustrate its operation. The compartments contain an assortment of vintage hand-tied trout flies in various traditional wet- and dry-fly patterns. The flies are included as found and vary in size, style, and condition. Primarily designed to carry Mayflies and large dry flies. All compartments have vintage flies in them! The Bakelite exterior displays some very minor surface scratches, rubbing, and normal handling marks, while retaining attractive oxblood and dark tortoiseshell mottling. The interior shows some age-related discoloration, finish loss, and small areas of paint wear. The translucent compartment covers have yellowed with age and display surface marks, but remain present. Please examine the photographs carefully for the condition and contents. It is considered a "tough" box to find in such beautiful condition! An appealing and less commonly encountered large-format Hardy Neroda compartment box, retaining its original interior fittings and a selection of vintage trout flies.
