Hardy Neroda Fly Box

Hardy Bros. Large Tortoiseshell Neroda Salmon Fly Box with Fully Dressed Flies

A vintage large-size Hardy Brothers “Neroda” salmon fly box, made in England and dating from approximately the 1930s–1960s. The rounded rectangular case measures approximately 6¼ inches long by 3¾ inches wide and is molded in richly figured amber-and-dark-brown Bakelite, commonly described by collectors as Hardy’s tortoiseshell finish. Both exterior panels bear the circular molded inscription “Hardy Bros. Makers England.” The box retains its full-length nickel-colored hinge, interior metal plates and original Hardy spring clips (40 of them). This arrangement was designed to hold large salmon flies securely by their hooks while helping protect the elaborate feather dressings. The box contains an extensive collection of colorful, traditionally dressed salmon flies, primarily tied on double hooks. The assortment includes numerous classic-style patterns dressed with married feather wings, barred feathers, tinsel bodies and vividly colored hackles, tags and cheeks. The flies are offered as found and vary somewhat in size, pattern and condition. The Bakelite exterior displays light surface scratches, rubbing, and normal handling marks but retains excellent color, gloss, and strong tortoiseshell figuring. The interior plates and fittings show age-related marks, spotting, and discoloration. The hinge and clip fittings appear sound, and the molded Hardy trademarks remain distinct. Please examine the photographs carefully for the number, patterns, and condition of the included flies. An especially attractive and highly displayable Hardy Neroda salmon fly box, distinguished by its dramatic tortoiseshell case and impressive collection of traditionally dressed double-hook salmon flies.
