SCARCE 12" WOMENS SPLIT WILLOW CREEL W/LEA. TRIM !

This charming circa-1940s fishing creel was made on a smaller scale, most likely for a woman or child. The basket is tightly woven of split willow in the desirable French-weave style and handsomely appointed with warm brown leather trim.

Broad leather reinforcing straps cross the front and back, while additional leather protects the lid, rim, base, and corners. The original central closing strap and metal buckle remain intact, and the creel is accompanied by the simple leather carrying strap found with it. An opening in the lid provided convenient access for placing the day’s catch inside.

The creel measures approximately 12 inches wide at the base, 5¾ inches from front to back at the top, and 8 inches high at the back.

With its appealing smaller proportions, fine weave, contrasting leatherwork, and warm vintage character, this unusual creel would make an attractive addition to an angling collection or a distinctive display piece for a cabin, lodge, or home.
