Vintage Fishing Net

VINTAGE WOODEN TROUT LANDING NET

An attractive vintage wooden trout landing net with a beautifully aged finish and a classic teardrop-shaped frame. The warm amber-toned hardwood hoop shows the character and patina expected from years of use and gives the net an especially appealing traditional sporting appearance.

The frame terminates in a short handle fitted with contrasting dark wood, neatly shaped around the junction of the hoop and handle. The grip is tightly wrapped in black cord, providing both a handsome contrast and a practical, secure handhold.

Of particular interest is the deep brown knotted net bag, which appears to be an older natural-fiber style rather than modern synthetic mesh. Its generous depth was intended to securely hold a landed trout while keeping the wooden frame relatively compact and easy to carry along a stream.

At the base of the handle is an aged metal ring and snap-hook assembly, allowing the net to be attached to a fishing vest, belt, creel, or other gear for convenient streamside carrying. The hardware has developed an appealing patina consistent with the overall age and character of the piece.

A very nice example of the traditional wooden landing nets carried by generations of trout fishermen. With its warm wood frame, dark wood throat, wrapped handle, deep knotted netting, and original-style hanging hardware, this net has considerable visual appeal and would make an excellent addition to a collection of vintage fly-fishing equipment—or a handsome display piece in a fishing room, cabin, or lodge.
